Miniature Models 

of the Silver Screen

The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures presents the Miniature Models of the Silver Screen exhibit through early May. Featuring a collection of works from the Ray & Diana Harryhausen Foundation in Edinburgh, Scotland, the exhibit showcases various iconic models, archival footage, artist sketches, original artworks and film paraphernalia depicting Ray’s movies — including “Clash of the Titans” and “Jason and the Argonauts.” Harryhausen’s career spans 30 years and his work continues to inspire contemporary filmmakers, such as George Lucas, Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro and Tim Burton.

Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab

The University of Arizona invites students and members of the community to see the Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab. Taking tours of the facility, attendees will have the opportunity to see how the process of creating the world’s largest telescopes were made — which in turn led to various important astronomical discoveries. The mirror lab, open for tours Monday to Friday through the end of May, houses expertise in physics, optics and manufacturing.

JOGS Tucson Gem 

and Jewelry Show

The JOGS Tucson Gem and Jewelry show runs from Wednesday Jan. 28 through Sunday, Feb. 8 at the Tucson Expo Center. As part of the Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show, the JOGS Tucson show brings together jewelry industry professionals, wholesalers and intercontinental manufacturers to showcase various new designs and ideas. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet jewelers from across the globe — USA, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Nepal, India, Thailand, Poland, Russia and many other countries.

‘Ain’t Misbehavin’’

A tribute to Fats Waller’s legacy, as well as the charm of jazz and swing, “Ain’t Misbehavin’” a cast of performers celebrating the golden age of jazz. Presented by the Arizona Theatre Company, the show features various iconic hits, with joyful rhythms, sultry melodies — highlighting the beauty of the music of the Harlem Renaissance.

Justin Willman — One for the Ages

Perhaps best known for his role on Netflix’s comedy special, “Magic Lover,” and hosting Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars,” magician and comedian Justin Willman will perform at the Fox Tucson on Thursday Feb. 5 — part of his “One for the Ages” tour. Between his new comedy special, and other Netflix titles “Magic for Humans” and “Magic Prank Show” Willman has amassed 1 billion views and counting. Recently named Stage Magician of the year, the performer has been featured on various popular talk shows as well — including “The Tonight Show,” “The Today Show,” “The Kelly Clarkson Show” and “Conan.”

Colors of the Stone

Colors of the Stone is a series of Artisan Workshops at Casino Del Sol Resort. Joined by To Bead True Blue and Colors of the Stone, the event showcases a wide array of artisan handcraft across 1000 artisan exhibits, galleries and workshops. Attendees hail from various states in the U.S. and 38 countries — including designers, art curators, jewelry artists, trades people and a growing artisan community.

Sons of Cream

FEB. 10

Legacy band of an iconic rock supergroup, Sons of Cream will perform at The Fox Tucson Theatre on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Picking up where their fathers, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, left off with their band Cream, Kofi Baker and Malcolm Bruce are joined by Rob Johnson to perform many of the fan favorites from the original band. In combination with music from other bands from the era, Sons of Cream’s musical inspirations combine blues with elements of pop, rock, psychedelia, folk and African rhythms.

Birding at the Zoo

Reid Park Zoo, in partnership with the Tucson Bird Alliance will host the Birding at the Zoo event on Thursday, Feb. 12. On a guided bird walk, attendees will have the opportunity to experience the zoo in a new way — observing and learning how to identify various native birds that call the zoo home. Binoculars and field guides are recommended, but not required.
