Down Under Bar Done

Aussie Cantina, an Australia-themed bar and grill at 1118 E. Sixth St., has closed. There’s been a lot of speculation about the reasons but nothing definite. The owner says the business will reopen in the fall, but there’s no word on whether it will be Aussie Cantina 2.0 or have a new theme. I had the opportunity to visit the cantina once and I liked what they were doing in the kitchen. It was tasty, and different.

Fruit Stand Closing

I’m sorry to bid goodbye to a Tucson food institution, the Fruit-Land Market, which is closing after 55 years at Speedway and North Sixth Avenue. The place had great fresh fruit and an Old World feel. Best of luck and a big thank-you to Larry and Joan Green.

Food for Thought

You may have heard that the Tucson Weekly has been sold. I’m not sure what impact that will have on this column, but I enjoy covering the city’s flourishing culinary scene and will continue to be in the mix regardless of Noshing Around’s fate. Thanks for reading.

  1. I have enjoyed reading your reviews. Good luck with what ever you do.

  2. The long review and Noshing Around are two articles I check every issue. I hope you stick around.

  3. Good food coverage week after week, smart writing, error-free. Methinks you should continue writing this column for the good of Tucson diners.

  4. @Adam – That means a lot coming from you. Believe me, I will continue until they peel me from my keyboard.

@Jacqueline & Fred, Thanks for your support!

@schpetta – I think their concept is brilliantly cool.
