Sky Bar
The owner of Brooklyn Pizza Company is turning the now-defunct North
on 4th at 536 N. Fourth Ave. into an astronomy-themed bar called Sky
Bar. Owner Tony Vaccaro said the bar will feature skylights, glass
garage doors and a telescope delivering deep-space images to a monitor.
The place will also feature projectors throwing images from planetarium
software, a full bar and Brooklyn Pizza. Vaccaro said he hopes to have
it open by Halloween.
Tucson Meet Yourself
Eat your way around the world at the annual Tucson Meet Yourself
festival, from Friday, Oct. 9, through Sunday, Oct. 11, at El Presidio
Park (160 W. Alameda St.) and the nearby Jacomé Plaza in front
of the Joel D. Valdez Main Library (101 N. Stone Ave.). About 40 ethnic
food booths will be featured, along with educational and entertaining
exhibits and acts. New to the festival this year is food by the
Ghanaian Association of Tucson, the Central Asian Ahiskan Association,
and Trinidad and Tobegan Sweets and Desserts. You’ll also want to be
there when chef Albert Hall of Acacia at St. Philip’s takes on chef
Ryan Clark of the Dish for the title of TMY Iron Chef at 7:30 p.m.,
Saturday, Oct. 10. Admission is free, but don’t forget to drop a
donation in one of the designated soup pots to keep this gem of a
festival going. Visit www.tucsonmeetyourself.org for
more information.
Jewish Food Festival
The Tucson Jewish Food Festival takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
Sunday, Oct. 25, at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park (3482 E. River Road).
More than a dozen of our town’s finest restaurants will handle the
food, while amateur contestants battle to make the best stuffed
cabbage, challah, chopped liver, Sephardic dish, noodle kugel and
strudel. Attendees will also find Irish and Israeli dancers, live
music, DJs and other live entertainment. Visit www.jewishfoodfestival.com for
more information.
Wine and Beer
The economy may be recovering, but we’re still stuck in cheapo mode
here at Noshing. With this in mind, we propose Plaza Liquors’ (2642 N.
Campbell Ave.) free wine-tastings from 4 to 6 p.m., every Wednesday;
and free beer-tastings from 4 to 6 p.m., most Thursdays. Manager Emilie
Thomson suggests calling the store at 327-0452 to check what libations
will be featured.
