The University of Arizona campus will come alive this month with the sound of music and the laughter of children when the College of Fine Arts welcomes kids and teens to explore the wonders of band, choir and orchestra at its summer music camp.
Spanning one week from June 22 to June 26, the program will spark imagination and nurture talent in Southern Arizona’s up-and-coming musicians through ensemble rehearsals, sectionals, fun activities and a series of electives that explore non-western and non-traditional music forms.
Amelia Kraehe, vice dean of the college, said the summer camp program is designed to provide participants with guidance and support to bring their creative vision and talent to life while potentially experiencing the U of A campus for the first time.
“Every summer, the Fine Arts campus transforms into a vibrant hub of musical expression,” Kraehe said. “These camps provide students with the confidence to collaborate and discover themselves as musicians. Whether they arrive with years of experience or just a few months of practice, we hope these students leave inspired and motivated to continue creating music.”
Enrollment is now open to students who have recently completed fifth to ninth grade and have at least one year of experience in band, choir or orchestra. Tuition is $395 for the week, with financial assistance available to those who qualify.
