Best Supermarket Tortillas

Alejandro's Tortilla Factory
5330 S. 12th Ave.

STAFF PICK: Who says you can't find good tortillas in a supermarket? Well, come to think of it, we did (or if we didn't, we were probably thinking it). Whatever the case, we were wrong, and for that we're sorry. Really, we are. But who could blame us, after all, hidden away as they were at the base of one of those 6-foot-tall tortilla stands at the end of aisle number nine? Yet there they were, and for who knows how long, just biding their time, patiently waiting, until some inveterately curious type's gaze should happen upon that tower's lowest tier. And what a find! Not only does locally owned Alejandro's Tortilla Factory make damn fine flour tortillas in a variety of sizes, but they also make the whole-wheat and no-lard vegetarian varieties (substituting soy-bean oil for the traditional animal shortening). Viva Alejandro's!
