Ultimate Smoothies
2751 N. Campbell Ave.

READER'S PICK: For years, Ultimate Smoothies (commonly referred to as simply US) was the only place in town where you could get a creamy concoction of fresh fruit, yogurt or juice, and the latest powders and vitamin supplements. Although competition has heated up, it's still our readers' favorite, so you'll be happy to know that this Sultan of Smoothies is plotting to expand its empire to a new Eastside location (next spring).

READERS' POLL RUNNER-UP: Juice Break, 1072 N. Campbell Ave. Jocks, housewives and food-obsessed sorority sisters mingle in Juice Break, a great little joint designed to fulfill your longing for freshness, fruit and the engine-like sound of a chorus of blenders. The place smells like oranges and grass (you can get a shot of wheatgrass juice that'll stain your tongue green and leave you burping up the delicate, bovine taste of lawn); the ingredients are fresh and the staff is painfully peppy. There are more than a dozen juicy combinations, including non-dairy selections, a wonderfully sweet carrot-juice/frozen yogurt shake, and all the standard orange-banana-berry concoctions. Included in the price is a choice of vitamin, mineral and health-fad supplements including bee pollen, Spirulina, and other performance-enhancing additives harvested from the bottom of a pond or the vegetation on its banks. It's yummy, you'll feel healthy, and best of all, you don't have to chew.

Best Wheatgrass

Juice Break has the best wheatgrass. It's organic, fresh, served with a slice of orange, and served by the ounce. It's good for you! It's cut and juiced right on the spot.
