Listings BALLET CONTINENTAL. Ballet Continental, a non-profit regional-based dance company under the direction of Lisa Baker DiGiacomo, opens their 1998-99 season with La Fille Mal Gardee, a ballet with elements of comedy, pantomime, love and farce. The ballet is presented in two acts at 8 p.m. Friday, October 9, at Leo Rich Theatre, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 11, at Sahuarita Auditorium, off I-19 and Helmet Peak Road. Tickets are $10, $8 for senior citizens, and $5 for students with ID and children under age 12. Tickets for the Friday performance may be purchased at the Dillard's and TCC box offices. FAMILY TIES CONCERT. The UA Dance Division performs at 5:30 p.m. Friday, October 9, at the UA Gittings Dance Theatre, north side of the UA mall east of Cherry Avenue. Tickets are $8. Call 621-4698 for information.

NOMMO. Mat Bevel Institute. 530 N. Stone Ave. Sirius Navigation, Inc., an emerging, Tucson-based, not-for-profit arts organization, presents The Nommo Project, a unique evening of new performance featuring African-American artists and themes. The Nommo Project takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 10, and features performer/ choreographer/writer Hassan al Falak, in Tales of Flying Africans, a dance-theater work in progress; vocalist Kind Essence, and pianist Samuel Curtis performing Oshun/Cabaret; and special guest performance artist/director, Shakiri, of Rootworkers, in an excerpt from And Their Children's Children, which recently premiered at the San Francisco Women Working Theater Festival. ARGENTINE TANGO. Mara Carlson teaches Argentine tango, Milonga and Vals, for beginning to advanced students. Beginning classes meet 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays at the On Broadway Dance Studio, 7036 E. Broadway, and 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays in Room 4 of the Ina Gittings Building on the UA Mall, West of Campbell. Intermediate/Advanced classes meet Sundays 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Room 4 of the Gittings building. The cost is $10 for the Thursday evening Beginning class, $15 for the Sunday Beginners' class and the Intermediate/Advanced class. Private lessons are also available. Call 791-3073 for information.

DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS DANCE. Jon McNamara holds ongoing workshops in movement through November 7, focusing on training a core group of dancers to act as a spirit group for the annual Día de los Muertos processional. Workshops focus on accessing free and natural expression through the body as aided by imagery and awareness exercises within the theme of the event. All skill levels are invited. Workshops are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, and from 4 to 6 p.m. Sundays, at The Datura Studios, 31 E. Toole Ave. A commitment through the project's completion on November 7 is required. JITTERBUG AND LINDY HOP SWING CLASSES. Armory Park Senior Center, 220 S. Fifth Ave. Brian Fabig and Irene Stojanov, members of the Jivin' Jitterbugs Dance Troupe in Phoenix, provide Jitterbug classes at 10 a.m. Sunday, October 11 and 25; and Lindy Hop swing dance classes at 11 a.m. and noon, Sunday, October 11 and 25. Beginning Lindy Hop classes are at 11 a.m. and intermediate sessions begin at noon. All ages are welcome and no partner is required. Cost is $8 per class. MODERN DANCE. The Movement Arts Warehouse. 121 E. Seventh St. Jeri McAndrews, who danced and choreographed professionally for dance companies in New York, San Francisco, and Denver, teaches dancers of all ages and stages the Fundamentals of Modern Dance from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, through October 28. Session II, a six-week session, meets from
