Best Wine And Liquor Store

RumRunner Wine And Cheese Co.
3200 E. Speedway

READERS' PICK: If you're like us, the thought of adding one store to your list of shopping stops for the day can be enormously unappealing. Wouldn't it just be easier to pick up everything at the grocery store and forget making that extra trip for liquor, wine and cheese? Easier perhaps, but more satisfying? Never. It's worth every small inconvenience to travel to the RumRunner Wine and Cheese Co. The staff is courteous, knowledgeable and helpful; the selections are plentiful; and it's tough to beat the assortment of breads and cheeses. If you're looking for some guidance on new or unfamiliar wines, this is the place. Several selections of wine--both domestic and foreign--are always highlighted and described for customers. When following these "tips" we have yet to taste a wine that failed to please. There's always a good variety of hard liquor on hand as well and, lest you think this added service and variety must lead to exorbitant prices, rest assured the cost of goods here is more than reasonable. In many instances, in fact, you'll pay less for food, liquor or wine here than you would at the corner grocery store.

READERS' POLL RUNNER-UP AND STAFF PICK: If you don't know anything about wine or liquor, the good folks at Plaza Liquors & Fine Wines, 2642 N. Campbell Ave., are always ready and able to help. With an arcane knowledge of the spirit world, they are prepared to guide you to the best choice in your price range, frequently introducing customers to items they might not have tried on their own. Signs next to the various brands tell you how the product rated with them, and if you need to know more, just ask. They won't point and laugh; rather, they'll answer your questions in an intelligent and polite manner. They will put you on their mailing list, so should you desire, you can be alerted to holiday specials and the arrival of the nouveau Beaujolais.
