Best Sandwich Advocate For Fire Safety

Sparky's Subs
2721 E. Speedway

STAFF PICK: The first thought that crosses your mind as you walk into Sparky's is, "Did I leave the burner on?" Maybe it's the booted effigy sliding down from the ceiling pole, or the mural of firefighters hard at work on a blazing inferno. There's something eerie about eating a submarine sandwich next to an area cordoned off with yellow disaster tape. Take the whole family, as kids will enjoy the display case full of firefighting-related toys, and even your pets may get a thrill from the two red hydrants. Underneath all the glass table tops are charred copies of actual newspaper articles of various local tragedies, including "Two Women Found Dead in Burned Mobile Home," and "Metal Panel Pierces Head of Man in 18-Foot Fall." You may want to eat here for the same reason people slow down to rubberneck at the scene of an accident.
