Best Death-By-Mountain Bike Trail

STAFF PICK: Just up Mt. Lemmon about a half-mile south of the Mt. Lemmon Café off the main road, there's the entrance to the Quiz Trail. The Quiz Trail squirrels around the other side of the mountain and pretty much straight down from there. Cruising, the entire trek down is a good hour and 10 minutes of rocks, trees, boulders and death-defying switchbacks. Technical to the max, the Quiz Trail extends you even as you enjoy the scenery hurtling past. Once you arrive battered and bruised at the bottom (where there's a dry river bed), you realize it isn't a loop: The only way back is the way you came. Brother, there is some serious climb involved...the type of trail that you'll talk about for years afterward. When you finally re-emerge, you can crawl over to the café, eat some homemade pie and tell the waitress all about it. Don't forget the first-aid kit for this one.
