Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
2021 N. Kinney Road

READERS' PICK: You want to rip your kid's attention from Doom II? Mention giant rattlesnakes and dinosaur bones. The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is chock full of interesting critters and activities. Part botanical garden, part geology museum and part zoological park, the museum offers numerous special programs tailor-made for the little people, with children's admission at only $1.75. Most children faced with the choice of whining about missing reruns of Saved by the Bell or touching a live snake will do the honorable thing. In the summer, the museum has special evenings with lantern-lit pathways, insect displays and docent-guided tours of the grounds. Stimulate the scientist in the whole family.

READERS' POLL RUNNER-UP: Reid Park Zoo, Country Club Road and 22nd Street.

STAFF PICK: Take the little tykes out to the ballgame! The Tucson Toros offer plenty of free tickets throughout the season, so it's no budget-buster, unless you get suckered into buying too much at the concession stands. And kids love going to the game. They don't watch the action on the field, of course, but they love to follow Tuffy Toro, hide under the bleachers, chase foul balls and--best of all--clamber atop the dugouts for the Cluck-U Chicken Dance. Buy 'em some peanuts and Cracker Jack's--they won't care if they ever get back.
