ART MART: The venerable Tucson Museum of Art celebrates
75 years on the local scene with its spring artisan market. Works by more than 100 top Southwest talents will be on the block, in media ranging from glass, ceramics, jewelry and wood to metal, leather, photography, furniture and watercolors.

In light of this vast array, the TMA folks offer sage advice: "Forget spring cleaning...come spring shopping!"

Cheap Thrills The market runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, April 9 through 11, at the TMA, 140 N. Main Ave. Admission is free. Call 624-2333 for details.

BEAMER: Discover the future right here in the Old Pueblo, when the UA Department of Physics presents The Science and Secrets of Star Trek with Andre Bormanis, science consultant to the Star Trek TV shows and movies.

A UA alum in physics, Bormanis will offer a behind-the-scenes peek at the production of the films and television series, with a vast galaxy of topics ranging from alien life forms, time travel and space warps to producing convincing science fiction within surprisingly tight television budgets. He'll also present a few insiders' tidbits about upcoming episodes, and the season finales of Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.

Bormanis beams down at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the UA Physics and Atmospheric Sciences Building, Room 201,
1118 E. Fourth St. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit student physics scholarship programs. Call 621-6820 for details.

MINOR GROOVE: Young types of every stripe get together on the big dance floor with another teen dance party sponsored by Direct and Third Street Kids. These gyrating extravaganzas feature snacks and soft drinks, and a DJ spinning tunes of "every kind imaginable," from hip hop and soul to metal.

The party runs from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Amphi Middle School Cafeteria, 315 E. Prince Road. Admission is 50 cents. Call 622-4100 for details.

RECORDS REDUX: The Eagle Lodge again becomes the temporary home for a grab bag of sound with its fifth specialty record show.

Sponsored by the Tucson Area Record Collectors, this well-mixed gathering will feature vinyl by the ton--in the form of LPs, 45s and 78s--along with CDs, videos and memorabilia. More than 30 dealers are expected to be on hand.

The early bird preview runs from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday, April 10, in the Eagles Lodge No. 180, 1530 N. Stone Ave. Admission is $4. The regular show continues from 9 am. to 4 p.m., and admission is $2; $1 with two cans of food for the Tucson Community Food Bank. For more information, call 628-8075.

RHAPSODY IN BLUE: It's been said you can't dig the blues in an office or shopping mall--the lighting is all wrong. But you can see colors of the rainbow under fluorescent lighting at Iris Fanfare: Sights and Sounds, from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, and
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 10 and 11, in the Foothills Mall, 7401 N. La Cholla Blvd.

Either way, the blues band Vaguely Familiar challenges the maxim from 2 to 3 p.m. both days, against a backdrop of pretty flowers and specialists offering information on the drought-tolerant iris. Call 742-7191 for details. TW
