You Got Served

With the tedious string of sitcom-style lessons on life and mind-numbing clichés, rookie writer/director Chris Stokes should have nixed his would-be plot and created a documentary on the riveting street-dancing subculture instead. However, since this hip-hop wannabe comedy already has invaded multiplexes nationwide, viewers will be forced to endure the predictable ruined relationships, unnecessary drug deals and overused drive-by shootings, all of which slow down the exhilarating dance battles in between. Choreographers Dave Scott and Shane Sparks prove their top-notch talents of orchestrating the fast-paced and updated break-dancing moves of the 1980s as the film’s two protagonists (Marques Houston and Omari Grandberry) compete against their Orange County rivals for the $50,000 grand prize. Unfortunately, the choreographers’ talents are wasted in this hip-hop mess that will make viewers regret ever having gotten served.
