The appealing Kristen Bell stars in yet another stink bomb. Reuniting with her Reefer Madness director, Andy Fickman, Bell plays Marni, a woman who learns that Joanna (Odette Yustman), the girl who terrorized her in high school, is marrying her brother (James Wolk). The twist: Joanna doesn’t seem to remember Marni. The second twist: Joanna’s Aunt Ramona (Sigourney Weaver) was the high school nemesis of Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis) … Marni’s mom. This capable cast should be able to bring the funny, but Fickman’s tone-deaf direction makes them look like amateurs. Even Betty White looks lost as Marni’s grandma; she’s reduced to denture jokes. I just caught a showing of Forgetting Sarah Marshall on TV, and I stand convinced that Bell is capable of good things—but her work in 2010 stands as evidence to the contrary.
