Re: “1977 Softball College World Series

Wow, reading this brings back some great times. I can remember every single pitch
that I threw in the no-hitter over ASU. I can remember all of the great defensive plays that our team made. We were not taken seriously when we got to Omaha. We went into the tournament third in our region and our school didn't even want to send us, but we had signed a contract if we finished in third we would go. What a great decision. This team was a great team, but during the regular season we just couldn't put it all together at the same time. At the World Series we peaked and played like we knew how we could. A lot of us played softball in the summer together and this was an experience we all talked about for a long, long time. After we got back I was drafted to play professional softball in St. Louis in the first women's professional softball league. That was the second best thing that ever happened to me. That World Series in Omaha will always be my best and number one memory and playing "pro" comes in second. The only thing that was disappointing about this wonderful part of my life is that when I returned home, someone stole my runner-up trophy, which meant everything to me and symbolized that game against ASU, so I have nothing to show for my best athletic moment in my life. Go Wildcats and continue to take the nation of softball by the horns. I truly think that this team was the beginning of the success of the program for all of these years and that makes me feel good and I'm sure my teammatets feel the same. Thanks to a great coach in Jenny Perrish. Tonja Adreon (played 1975-77)
