The work of Bobcat Goldthwait has always walked well outside the mainstream. Some of it is worth checking out and some of it misfires wildly. Willow Creek marks a new direction for Bobcat, the strange stand-up comedian and actor from the 1980s (Police Academy) who quietly became a film director more than 20 years ago. This is a found footage movie, one of those where it’s shot documentary-style and something noteworthy, bizarre, or terrible usually happens to the film crew. Willow Creek is, unfortunately, too close to The Blair Witch Project to get excited about, although the leads (Bryce Johnson and Alexie Gilmore) are both better than adequate. It’s just ... how many ways can a movie about tracking Bigfoot go, exactly? The ride is fun enough, but there’s not much here you wouldn’t expect to see along the way.
