Where Film and Music Get a Suntan

Tucson Film and Music Festival

The Tucson Film and Music Festival started in 2005 with a screening of Michael Toubassi's "High and Dry," during the historic Club Congress 20th anniversary reunion, a perfect venue for a documentary about Tucson musicians and its early music scene. Ten years later, Toubassi continues to lead the festival and music continues to be the wonderful freakin' reason for its existence. The festival runs from Thursday, Oct. 9 through Sunday, Oct. 12 at venues throughout town, including the Oscar winning "God of Love." Opening night features a screening of "Pleased to Meet Me," on Friday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m. at the Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd., about six musicians who've never met but come together to form a band for one day. The cast includes Aimee Mann, John Doe and Loudon Wainwright III. Tickets range from $5 to $10 with filmmaker Q&A's at almost all the venues. For more on the festival and a full schedule, please visit tucsonfilmandmusicfestival.com
