Web Heads

This weekend, a bunch of co-workers and I are heading to Phoenix for a conference on "new media." We'll be discussing ways in which to make our online operations more successful, more popular and more profitable.

Of course, a lot of newspapers are having similar conferences and discussions these days; this is not news. Everyone agrees that most newspapers need to put a lot more resources into their online operations (they do), because of a widespread belief that the dead-tree print versions of the newspaper are rapidly dying off (they aren't, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't focus a lot of attention on the Internet, in any case).

At the Weekly, we have a lot of irons in the figurative online fire. About a year and a half ago, we launched our blog, and we have a MySpace page; send us a friend if you haven't already). As we've discussed in this space before, we're also in the process of redesigning our main Web site; developing a local-music Web site at TAMMIES.com; and doing all sorts of other fun stuff.

So, as we continue to make all these plans, I have a question for you: What do you want to see in terms of new-media offerings from the Tucson Weekly? I ask, because we're a small-ish paper (at least in terms of resources and staffing levels), and I want to make sure we're using those resources wisely.

You know how to reach me; my e-mail address is jboegle@tucsonweekly.com.
