Tucson's Birthday Celebration

Mariachi music by Los Changuitos Feos greets guests for an event celebrating the 238-year history of the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20; free. The ceremony includes a cannon salute, a traditional Tohono O'odham blessing, and a reading of the letter Hugo O'Connor wrote on Aug. 20, 1775, designating the presidio site in Tucson. Flags from throughout Tucson's history are carried by people wearing the traditional dress of their era. They include American, Spanish, Mexican, Confederate, State of Arizona, Tohono O'odham, Yaqui and the Mormon Battallion of Dec. 16, 1846.
