I am a retired USAF Lt. Col. and adjunct instructor of Spanish at Pima Community College, I really enjoy languages and, in addition to English & Spanish which I have been studying for over 50 years, I have studied Latin, French, Italian, Portuguese and Russian. My most current efforts are to bring my Italian from a reading level to a conversational level. I majored in Spanish at the U of A and I attended the U of A Summer School in Guadalajara, MX in 1965, living with a local family. From1981 to 1985, the USAF assigned me as an exchange officer to teach English at the Mexican Air Force Academy (Colegio del Aire) in Zapopan, a suburb of Guadalajara. From 1986 to 1989 I was the Vice Commandant and Commandant of the Interamerican Air Forces Academy where USAF and Latin American air force personnel taught aircraft manintenance to Latin American air force technicians in Spanish. After retiring in 1989 I studied for my doctorate (I'm ABD) in International Relations at the University of Miami in Coral Gables. During that time I was a Research Associate at the North-South Center where I read/scanned 25 Spanish language daily newspapers for articles for the State Department/CIA sponsored database, Info-South. Over the years I have travelled to all of the Spanish speaking countries of the Western Hemisphere except Nicaragua & Cuba. I am anxious to travel to Europe over the next several years. I brushing up on my Italian and Portuguese.

Re: “Endorsements, Part 2

Prop 205. TV ads are misleading, especially the vet (I'm also a vet) calling the need for Prop 205 to help his medical condition. I empathize, but there is already medical marijuana - which I think is great. 205 will not change his situation with respect to medical needs -- since his medical needs permit marijuana. The VA is a federal organization and, at present, VA employees cannot prescribe marijuana for any reason.

Re: “Danehy

I agree. It seems like Mr. Bedoya is right up there with the patron saint of local grafitti scofflaws, Ward 1 Councilwoman Regina Romero.

Re: “Homeland Security Moving Closer To Shutdown

The lady who came back to Tucson to run for Congress shows how much she cares about the Southern Arizonans who voted for her because she could get them border security. Now she's got her $174,000 a year job, so she is kowtowing to Boehner and not being upfront about her position on this major border security issue. When will we learn that a home-grown member of the House of Representatives is best for Southern Arizona?

Re: “What Danehy Said About Charter Schools

Makes me wonder if our Supervisor with the $1500+ chair gets to keep that when she is hopefully defeated for her excesses? Any bets?

Re: “How To Foil a Border Patrol Checkpoint

When will Americans wake up and realize that this is all part of the Bush/Chaney Fatherland security fiasco. What a waste of money and violation of our rights as US citizens. Security is used to appeal to the uneducated masses just as it was in Nazi Germany and the dictatorships around the world!!!
