Wow, your small attitudes sound just like those of the people who gave Bruce Lee a hastle for sharing eastern knowledge with the world. I wonder how many of those small minded people are sharing their martial arts knowledge. If you have the ability to learn and to teach others, why shouldn't you. How else will we become less ignorant? Grow up, we share this planet and learning and participating in cultures of the world may help us learn tolerance.
I have been to the lodge. Participants bring food and monetary contributions if they can and are willing. Money is never talked about there. It is not the purpose of the lodge or the evening together. There is always a communal meal afterwards. Money is not talked about there either. I have often come with neither and always felt welcome.
Yes retreats are charged for, even the ones at my church are charged for. The money goes towards food and lodging, not for entry into the lodge.
