Tlakatl: What It Means to Be Human Symposium
An all-day student/community forum examines the history of de-humanization in North America, including definitions of who is human or legal, and current laws considered de-humanizing, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19. Presenters include K through 12 students, UA and PCC students, teachers from the UA-SEED/SEMILLAS program, the youth poetry group Spoken Futures, and such community leaders as Chief Jake Edwards, Onandaga Nation; Steven Martin, UA Native American Student Affairs; Dulce Juarez, ACLU; Tupak Enrique Acosta and Evie Aguirre, Tonatierra; Jose Matus, Alianza Indigena; Isabel Garcia, Derechos Humanos; and Raul Al-Qaraz, Corazon de Tucson.
