The Other Boleyn Girl

The dimly lit and dulled cinematography is frustrating. The odd camera angles—many scenes are obscured by a pillar or door—are unnecessary and distracting. But acclaimed writer Peter Morgan’s adaptation of Philippa Gregory’s novel makes this film into a juicy 16th-century soap opera. Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson co-star as the infamous Boleyn sisters, who use passion and persuasion, delusions of grandeur and deceit to vie for the love of King Henry (a miscast Eric Bana) and advance their family’s status. Twists and turns leading to a deadly ending will leave viewers wanting more.
