The Mighty Macs

The Mighty Macs plays like any run-of-the-mill underdog sports film. Carla Gugino stars as Cathy Rush, a former high school basketball star who has nothing to do … so, hey, why not coach? Her husband (David Boreanaz) doesn’t believe she can make anything of her ragtag group of players. Well, guest what happens next? The film isn’t bad, but it uses every tired trope from every other similarly themed film. The speed with which the women’s college team becomes great is pretty ridiculous: One minute, they’re bad, and the next, they’re amazing. It just goes to show how important a montage can be.

The Mighty Macs is not showing in any theaters in the area.
