The Leóns of Tucson: One Family, Three Countries

Patriarch Francisco Solano León was born in the Tucson Presidio when it was part of New Spain; served as a soldier there when it was part of Mexico; and became a U.S. citizen with the Gadsden Purchase. Archaeologist Homer Thiel of Desert Archaeology discusses León's era, and artifacts found at the site of the family farmstead in what is now known as Snob Hollow, near the Tucson Museum of Art, from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25. Free. A birthday-cake reception for Tucson's Birthday precedes the talk.
