Thirty-six years after Disneys original
animated adaptation of Rudyard Kiplings
best-selling childrens stories hit the big
screen, Mowgli is still is being chased by
a terrorizing tiger and gallivanting around
with a benign bear in this superfluous yet
simplistically entertaining film. Haley Joel
Osment voices the lead character whose
ADD-like mindset quickly becomes
impatient with the rules and the chores of
his fenced-in village. Because of this, his
scrawny legs take him into the jungles of
India where his adventures involve
peeling mangoes, singing and dancing
with a cabaret of wild animals and being
pursued by a ferocious feline. Unless
there was a rupture in the space/time
continuum, the kids of today havent seen
Disneys 19th full-length feature film from
1967 in theaters. Therefore, the
10-and-under crowd will be pleased with
the richly saturated colors and the
musical cuddly critters, while the
10-and-over crowd will be pleased with
the expeditious running time of 72
minutes.
