The Fault in Our Stars

Last summer, the teen romance of note was The Spectacular Now, starring Shailene Woodley. She returns again, teaming up with Spectacular screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber for the adaptation of the hit Young Adult novel The Fault in Our Stars. Woodley plays Hazel, a cancer patient who meets Gus (Ansel Elgort) in a survivors’ discussion group. He’s funny and all the other stuff you’d expect in a blossoming teen romance story, but his own experiences with the disease deepens their relationship and the value that he can offer Hazel as she endures her treatment. The Fault in Our Stars unloads the heavy guns; if you’re susceptible to the waterworks, bring some tissues. Or maybe a bed sheet. Woodley’s great—that’s becoming a common occurrence—and this is going to be one of those Notebook-type movies that could stay with its fans for years.

The Fault in Our Stars is not showing in any theaters in the area.
