The Brown Bunny

This is a significantly re-cut version of the film that Roger Ebert once called "the worst in the history of Cannes." Now it’s actually pretty decent, at least until Chloe Sevigny appears and sucks, amongst other things, the life out of the movie. Vincent Gallo, who writes, directs, shoots, produces and does special effects for this film, also stars as a motorcycle racer who’s lost his woman. He drives around the United States looking sullen on sexy Super 16mm film, and occasionally has weird interactions with roadside women who love him for a few minutes before he goes back to brooding and being sad. It’s very early-’70s, with lots of filtered sunlight and Easy Rider/Five Easy Pieces thematics. It all falls apart in the end, but, you know, so do life, love and capsule-sized movie reviews, so really, what the hell, eh? You know what I mean? Huh?
