The Bridge

This is like a very sensitive, modern version of Faces of Death. Director Eric Steel set up a camera facing the Golden Gate Bridge and captured video of a half-dozen people jumping to their deaths. He then interviewed the families and friends of the deceased to see if he could get any insight into what led them to jump. There’s a terribly pornographic aspect to the jumping shots, even though they are visually stunning and emotionally devastating. Steele also plays with the audience by saving the most horrifying sequence for the end, teasing the audience with it by frequently cutting to the moments before a long-haired rocker does a glorious back-dive off the railing. As an emotional respite, the film also shows a few people getting rescued. On the whole, The Bridge is a morally questionable but incredibly engaging film that will certainly have you asking questions.
