For every “Up,” WALL-E,” and “The Iron Giant,” there’s thousands of burping, farting and ghastly unfunny movies out there for the wee ones. “The Boxtrolls” is firmly on the side of outstanding family-friendly entertainment. The Boxtrolls are a clan of little box-wearing monsters who live in the sewers of Cheesebridge, a steampunky town ruled by the snooty Lord Portley-Rind. 10 years previously a baby boy was believed to be abducted and eaten by the Boxtrolls, but that’s not really the case. He was raised amongst them as one of their own. He rocks an egg carton around his waist, so they naturally name him “Eggs.” Lord Portley-Rind sicks Archibald Snatcher (a sinister Ben Kingsley) on the underground dwellers, and Eggs rallies the troops to fight back. If your young ones can handle a few scares, treat yourself and the family to this one immediately.
