Rated NR

An Argentine film of real feeling and subtlety, The Aura is the story of Esteban Espinosa, a taxidermist who dreams of becoming a bank robber. Possessing a perfect photographic memory and precise intellect, he has everything he needs to pull off the job, except the guts. So instead, he goes on a hunting trip, and all his dreams come true, in a nightmarish sort of way. Directed by Fabián Bielinsky shortly before his death, Aura is moody, rich and rewarding, with a plot of great complexity. The cinematography, sound design and star Ricardo Darín’s performance mirror each other in their sense of foreboding and quiet repression, and the end result is a rewarding thriller and rich psychological study.
