I think the Farrelly brothers are to the 90s
and 00s what George Lucas was to the
80s. They completely changed the filmic
landscape, introducing an entire genre to
American audiences. While Lucas
spearheaded the dopey space-Western,
the Farrellys created the poop film.
Though I dont like the effect that either of
them had, one cant deny their incredible
influence. With Stuck on You,
Bobby and Peter Farrelly move away from
bodily excretions and toward bodily
deformity with a story about conjoined
twins. Bo (Matt Damon) and Walt (Greg
Kinnear) are athletic, single business
owners in Marthas Vineyard. Yet,
connected as they are by a flesh-bridge
and a single liver, their lives still seem to
be lacking something. Thus, they head to
Hollywood, where Walt hopes to become
a film star and Bo looks to meet the girl of
his dreams. Its all very sentimental and
ultimately not as funny as one would
hope, but it makes up for its lack of humor
with an uplifting message of acceptance.
"Dont deny; embrace," says Walts
girlfriend (Eva Mendes). Good advice: I
hope the Farrellys take it and just go with
their dramatic instincts next time out,
since they seem to be running low on
yuks.
