Star Gazing

Tucson has one of the best astronomy programs in the country and offers some of the best sky viewing around—why not take advantage? On Friday, April 24, from 7 to 9 p.m., the Pima County Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation will host a night under the stars at the Historic Hacienda de la Canoa Ranch, 5375 I-19 Frontage Rd. As long as weather permits, viewers can take in the sights of Venus, Jupiter, the moon and a number of other stars. Volunteers from the Sonora Astronomical Society will help attendees use telescopes to take in the celestial bodies and give a basic introduction to the night sky. The highlight will be seeing the Orion Nebula, which should be briefly visible. Those who attend are encouraged to bring a flashlight for night walking and a lawn chair if they want to sit. The event is free, and children are welcome. More information can be found at webcms.pima.gov.
