Slow Burn
Writer/Director Wayne Beach explores the fact that there are two sides to every story in this watered-down retread of The Usual Suspects. It’s up to a bland and clichéd district attorney (Ray Liotta) to figure out which story is the right story. Is it the one told by his leggy assistant district attorney—whom he’s sleeping with—that paints her as the innocent victim? Or is it the one told by an enigmatic stranger with an extreme sense of smell who suggests that the assistant district attorney is a cold-blooded killer and manipulative psychopath? It’s a monotonous journey to get to the truth, especially considering the characters aren’t that interesting in the first place.
