Disneys latest kid film (or maybe its a
tween film) is basically Pretty in
Pink set in a high school for
superheroes. Young Will Strongholds
parents are the worlds greatest
superheroes, The Commander and
Jetstream. Yet poor Wills only
superpower is his inability to see that
popularity is not as important as
friendship. Danielle Panabaker plays the
Duckie role as Wills best friend, Layla.
While she moons over Will, he decides to
hook up with The Most Popular Girl in the
School, who, in good John Hughes
fashion, is not only not nice, but even
super-mean. Comic relief is provided by
Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald of
Kids in the Hall fame, although
theres not quite enough of it to fully
relieve this movie. Nonetheless, its
passably entertaining, and nerdy moms
and dads who bring their
hyper-active-powered kids to see this
wont be terribly bored, and they may even
learn an important lesson about
responsibility and how to steal script
ideas from 80s teen movies.
