Ms. Judy - the mining law has been updated ~20+ times since its inception and has served the country well - providing incentive for private companies to explore the country, spend hundreds of billions of dollars to develop the nations mineral resources and in the process help the US become an industrial nation rather than an isolated agrarian country dependent on all those around us for the minerals we need. This one operation will provide 25% of the copper needed by Americans and bring in ~60 billion to the Arizona economy in a mining district that has been producing copper since before Arizona statehood. Mother nature blessed Arizona with copper - this is our contribution to the nation - not vast fields of soy and corn, organic yogurt empires, strawberry and tulip farms, or kaolin clay. None of those operations are possible without copper to run motors, pumping systems, lights, and timers. Why not be part of the solution to make the project the best project possible from an environmental and sustainable perspective. We need copper and other metals - make it happen in the least damaging method possible.
Climate has been changing since Earth had a climate. It was noticeably warmer during Roman times and during middle ages and that wasn't that long ago. Earth long history has mostly been warmer than now according to fossil, geological, and ice core records. Try being here during the Cretaceous when the great inland seaway drowned the central corridor of North America. Not much ice hanging around then. So why is it a problem now? PEOPLE...too many people all crowding around places they shouldn't be living. So deal with it! Not through taxes and hair-brained schemes devised by politicians but by planning for floods, fires, earthquakes, too much/too little rain/heat just like we do for every other Earth hazard.
Please define "dawn of time." Weren't the Navajo and Apaches the last Native Americans to arrive in the desert southwest only shortly before the Spaniards? Prospectors and miners are part and parcel of Arizona Territorial and state history, just as are the Native Americans of many different groups. I love how Mr. Workman thinks Apaches are some uniform entity. Wow! Patronizing.

ChetDude refers to "right wing trolls" on ADS boards. Why stop with right-wing? To be fair, left-wing serial posters like Benjamin Long and Autumn, Malcolm (Tripod) did their share of trolling.
I was both a participant and a lurker on the old ADS comment site. I enjoyed anonymous posting as I put in my comments from work computer and needed privacy. I enjoyed reading the vigorous exchanges on political topics about which I wasn't particularly opinionated or knowledgeable (Benghazi, Fast&Furious, Obamacare, immigration, etc.) and putting my two cents worth on a few topics I do know well. I learned a lot about the constitutional and election issues from posters like Langer and Harry Red Dog, gun rights/gun control issues from Wayne B. (Rain) and Harperman, enviro comments from folks like Skinnyman, SilverTones, Jerrod Sandhill, and Horquilla, and the super clever posts by Rat T. The information provided by the posters supplemented the many times thin or biased story lines written by ADS. Heck half the time, the fellow posters provided the links we needed to do something about what we learned or to fuller stories in other papers. I miss the rapid-fire conversations. The conversations now on the threads are slow, insipid, and boring, but hey, the folks all seem to agree with each other! Dissenters and provacateurs on the left, middle, and right have split.
