Re: “Mailbag

I sometimes wonder if any of the STSSR people have ever heard of something called an "Export". For those who haven't, let me clarify that it is the opposite of an "Import" which is how we currently obtain most of our manufactured goods and energy today. If imports are greater than exports, what results is called a trade imbalance. One can only have a negative trade imbalance for so long before ramifications develop including the accumulation of large debts.

It is absolutely irrelevant and patently absurd to think that since Rosemont will be selling the copper to asia that it does not benefit Arizonans and even the USA as a whole. Indeed, much of that copper will find its way back to the US in the form of batteries, computers, cell phones, and other manufactured goods.

It is so tiresome to continue to read the same drivvel of people saying that domestic mining and manufacturing should be curtailed or stopped. We do NOT currently produce enough minerals or energy domestically to even meet our own needs.

Yes, people should monitor the mining process to make certain that the company is safeguarding public water supplies. But get out of the way of their efforts to actually produce something of value to both the world and the local economy. Our countrymen are cutting their own throats and they don't even realize it.
