Comedy, Musical
After getting fired from his band, Dewey Finn (Jack Black) fakes being a substitute teacher to make some quick dough, but he discovers that his young students have supreme musical abilities. He soundproofs his classroom, breaks out the instruments and instructs the youth in the wonders of rock. Black is at his best, full-blown glory in this sweet and uplifting film from director Richard Linklater and writer Mike White. He’s been quoted in recent interviews as saying he was born to play the role of Dewey, and he is right. Adding to the wonders of the film are the children, all with distinct charms, all very good on their instruments. The jam sessions are real, with protégé kids jamming on a level that would make AC/DC envious. As fun a time as you will have at the movies all year.
