Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's

There’s an audience for Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s but it’s likely not a big one. Unless you’re so interested in fashion that you don’t mind learning very little about it and only want to see a bunch of nice clothes, then have at it. Documentaries don’t have to feature some big reveal, of course, but even as a piece of eye candy, Scatter My Ashes is pretty thin. It’s the history of Manhattan’s famed department store, the seat of high fashion in this country. But there’s not much within those walls that we get to see that would make a dent on someone who doesn’t already shop there. It’s a sermon to the choir. A couple of the chapters are worth watching—a brief remembrance of Halston and a behind-the-scenes look at Bergdorf’s Christmas window displays—but it’s mostly ephemeral. Just like fashion.
