It's funny, I used to just assume both Republicans and Democrats were rote liars when it came to issues of taxation. Then I started talking to my accountant, and found out, yep, they totally are. When it comes to taxation, as the original commenter pointed out, the U.S. tax code is almost completely impenetrable for the lay person. It makes our elections fraught with complications such as this one.

There are so many little regulations and loopholes that accountants know about. Best decision I ever made was to hire a personal accountant. Not only do I make my money back each year (and then some), I can rest easy knowing I won't have the IRS breathing down my neck for some checkbox I forgot to tick. Large accounting firms have missed a lot of things in the past, so I long ago switched to a smaller firm that I can have a personal relationship with. Check out www.irsremedy.com. Ed Osinski will set you straight and save you money, and hey, you might learn a thing or two about our crazy tax code if you take the time to talk to him.
