Re: “Danehy: Tom takes on the anti-vax community

I was born in the early 1960s and, like all kids of my generation, I received full vaccinations as an infant. Since that time, two events have strongly shaped my outlook on vaccines.

The first was in the early 1970s, when my family moved to NJ. Our next door neighbors, a large family, had an oldest son who had contracted polio at the age of 8. When we met him, he was in his late teens, dependent on two crutches to move, and (understandably) angry at the world. It broke my heart to see this kid struggling his way through high school (you KNOW how mean kids can be) and facing a life of hardship that COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. I could not believe that his parents hadn't vaccinated their children.

When I was ready to enter graduate school in the mid-1990s, I was informed that I had to receive an MMR vaccine - even though I had my vaccination records, I was told that a booster was necessary. It was made absolutely clear to me that, without this vaccine, I would not be permitted to enter graduate school. That's the way it SHOULD BE!!!

I am absolutely appalled by the anti-vaxxer movement. Disgusted and horrified. I think that parents who choose not to vaccinate should be charged with child abuse.

Re: “Three’s a Crowd: Randi Dorman

Wow lc69hunter - that is an extremely open-minded comment. Since when is this the norm in Arizona?

(Just kidding - I went to Ms. Dorman's kickoff and I was extremely impressed. I am keeping an eye on this one.)

Re: “Dorm Days: UA Students Move In This Week

Funny thing - I'm seeing a LOT of "for rent" signs in West University and Rincon Heights - far more than I ever remember seeing in the past. Are the landlords in this area seeing fallout from the huge high-rise student complexes that are popping up? Just curious.

Re: “From Wastewater to Cold Beer

It is oft said that 'all water is recycled,' meaning (and this is true) that every time we take a swig of 'crystal clear pure mountain water' from our water bottle, that water has passed through a dinosaur and several hundred organisms since.

That being said, the Pure Water Brew Challenge was genius. For those Arizonans not yet on board with the idea of drinking recycled water, this was a way to educate and enlighten them. I've had the pilsner, and it's really great. Congratulations to Dragoon, and also to the third place winner, Tucson's own Crooked Tooth Brewery.

To Rita: the SW corner of 6th Avenue and Broadway.

To SonoranWinds - really? Was that necessary? Grow up.

Re: “Caviar Dreams

Have visited MiAn three times since the opening and all experiences were VERY positive. I am a BIG fan of Senae Thai and I wasn't all that excited about another Asian restaurant coming in downtown. But MiAn is great - from the ambiance (relaxed but classy) to the knowledgeable wait staff, to the owner (or manager) always stopping by the table to make sure we were happy. The care that they take in their product shows. Definitely worth a try, and I wish them the best of luck.
