Rudo y Cursi

This is a soccer movie that doesn’t really have any soccer in it. Y Tu Mamá También’s Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna reunite, playing brothers on opposing Mexican soccer teams who rise and fall in grand style. The film is a comedy, and it sports some amusing moments, especially as Bernal’s character becomes a singing star and covers Cheap Trick’s I Want You to Want Me. It’s also uneven, featuring tons of clichés and leaden stretches. Still, the two stars make it somewhat worthwhile, and it’s cool to see them together again. Why director Carlos Cuarón chose not to show the actual sport being portrayed is anybody’s guess. This is actually Cuarón’s directing debut; he’s the brother of Alfonso Cuarón, director of También and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Rudo y Cursi is not showing in any theaters in the area.
