Re: “'A' Mountain, a Fire

Assuming that fireworks played a part in the fire on Sentinel Peak, sadly our culture is not willing to sacrifice 45 minutes of decadent pleasure for the potential destruction of nature, beauty, habitat for wildlife and plant life that is slow in being restored. If and when the monsoon comes we can expect severe erosion of the mountain side. At least in my midtown neighborhood we have no more than 2 inches of rain since January 1. That statistic suggest not playing with fire until further notice.

Re: “Have You Seen These Paintings? Cardenas Artwork Stolen From Former Bring Funeral Home Space

Stealing art is a serious offense and legal action should be taken or the paintings promptly returned. The artists spent time, talent and money on her work and the artist and the work deserve proper respect.

Until the end of the article the reporting and content appears to be factual and professional. Once the the vocabulary becomes jocular, for my interpretation, the credibility of the writing is compromised and unprofessional. Name calling, typically an immature practice rarely has positive results. The RANGE and TUCSON WEEKLY often report on content that is progressive, educational, in depth, ground breaking, revealing and interesting. Sadly wanting it both ways by using immature jargon erodes at the credibility of the content.

Re: “Three (Maybe Four) Energy Stories From the News

This from

In promoting his energy plan, Donald Trump made two false claims:
Trump said wind farms in the U.S. kill more than 1 million birds a year. Reliable data are scarce, but current mean estimates range from 20,000 to 573,000 bird deaths per year.
While discussing the number of eagles that are killed by wind turbines, Trump said that if you shoot an eagle they want to put you in jail for five years. Actually, the maximum penalty is a one-year imprisonment.

Energy IS a problem in this country. How many marine life birds have been killed by oil slicks? How many fish? What about the air pollution that affects humans, adults and kids with asthma? Next let's talk about black lung disease and the profits unregulated coal corporations make. The fact us that energy use in this country is complex, and politicians love to tweak the facts (lie) to achieve their agendas.
