Cajun is foreign to you otherwise you would have known about it, that it is supposed to be spicy, that the coleslaw was not wilted but perfect as one makes it in New Orleans.
You should retract the obvious mistakes about the wrong dessert prices. When readers point out mistakes to you, it would be the right thing to say, yes, ok, my mistake and here is the corrected version. That is professional journalism. I have read other reviews by you which were just as sloppy and instead of correcting them, you tried to be sarcastic, i.e. the crepe suzette at Amber. I looked at all your reviews before I wrote because I wanted to know whether this was a one time sloppy review or not.
What do I expect in a review written by a person who writes reviews on a continous basis? The facts should be correct, the writer should have taken it upon herself to learn more about the cuisine she is describing...a little more knowledge and savoir faire...know what you write about, and know before you judge whether coleslaw is wilted or maybe supposed to be that way and Cajun cuisine is supposed to be spicy. Instead of being diplomatic by putting "foreign" into my comment, I could have been clear and said: the writer doesn't know what she is writing about...but I didn't want to point the finger so to speak. You put your review out there, so you should be able to stand behind it. Nothing personal, just the facts of a sloppy review.
Hospitals, Nurses, Doctors should not have to take of Illegals who are in the ICU in our hospitals. Nobody gets paid, the illegals stay in the most expensive unit, the ICU, and then they are let go...and nobody gets paid for the services they provide. No wonder Arizona hospitals go bancrupt, doctors don't want to work here, nurses and EMTs are fed up. We, the taxpayers, are paying for illegals who come into our country, illegally which is criminal and bancrupting our country. People, hospitals and agencies should be able to refuse service without pay. Close the borders and let Mexico work out their own problems. Throwing stones at Border Agents from the Mexican border? What is wrong? The US is the only Western, industrialized country that has a border with a third world country and the problems are rising with the problems this entails.
After reading several of the writer's reviews, I do have to agree that, well, they just don't cut it. First of all, Eastern European food is not considered Continental food, it is slavic, Eastern European food, there is a difference. To say that this type of food is fine dining is totally wrong as it is considered peasant food, very good peasant food at that and that is what it is.... I do suggest to the writer to start using Wikipedia to have some knowledge about the different food cultures she is describing without having the knowledge of even the simplest facts. Regarding the Crepe Suzette, no, that is not acceptable, either the writer knows what they are or she looks it up, or she doesn't mention it. Who wants to read false statements? If it would happen in one review, ok, but every second review by this writer is full of mistakes, implied, or obvious. Very superficial and narrow minded reviews without the level of understanding one would expect from a "food" "writer".
Lee Lee's is a great addition to Tucson's food scene...in addition to Asian food, they carry Caribbean food, European food...the green onions are 29 cents a bunch, at Safeway they are 99 cents a bunch so one can really save going there..great fresh vegetables, fruit, fish and meat...As a Non Chinese speaker, I would have liked to have somebody behind the meat counter who spoke at least some rudimentary English words but one can always point...The Vietnamese restaurant is great, and also the Jeweler is wonderful and fast in changing batteries while one shops...
If the writer had eaten froglegs before, she would have known that Don's are a bargain in comparison to the $24.95 charged anywhere else. But still: she tried them and even tried a "foreign" cuisine, Cajun, a spicy mixture of Caribbean, French, Spanish and African influences. Yes, that is right, it is spicy which is why we like it...another hint, coleslaw is not American coleslaw but Cajun coleslaw which means it has no mayonnaise and is marinated to soften it. The superb desserts are $2.50 not $4.50 as stated.
I am a frequent customer of Don's since he opened. I also love Heaven on 7 in Chicago and Mr. B's in New Orleans for great Cajun food but Don's is closer and gourmet food at rock bottom prices for people who really like good food...I leave it at that....
It is tragic, truly tragic. I am eating the freshly boiled crawfish at Don's now and started eating the excellent Turtle stew (from sustainable farms as are the freshwater crawfish). Great food, miss the oyster po'boys, am eating the crunchy catfish po'boys now. Love Don's Cajun food.
Best Cajun food in town. Everybody I take there loves it. This is great food, if people want nice looking dishes, then they should go to an overprized restaurant which serves mediocre food on huge plates and charges a premium for serving ware...Please, it is the food! Gumbo and Jambalaya are excellent, the cajun potato salad and coleslaw amazing, the weekend's fresh boiled crawfish with corn and potatos: can't get better than this. Music on the weekends, Best Hurricanes and Whisky Sours...by the way, can't go wrong with the Red Beans and Rice, ca c'est bon!
