Brad Bird, the mastermind behind Pixar’s The Incredibles, does it again with one of the best animated films I’ve ever seen. A rat named Remy (voice of Patton Oswalt) with a delicate palate and a knack for cooking finds himself instrumental in the return to greatness of a once-prominent French restaurant. That’s because he takes up residence in a chef’s hat, moving the chef’s arms by tugging the chef’s hair as if marionette strings. The animation is flawless, and the script is decidedly adult. Ian Holm is the perfect choice to voice Skinner, a chef with evil intentions; Peter O’Toole is superb as the voice of vengeful food critic Anton Ego. The film is flawless, although I am convinced adults will dig it more than kids. I can’t see how anything could beat this one out for Best Animated Feature at the next Oscars. It’s an amazing achievement.
