Quarantine

A news crew follows a team of firemen as they go on a call to an apartment building. It seems an old lady has been screaming a lot, and it’s scaring the neighbors. They head inside, and very bad things happen … zombie style! The movie is filmed like Cloverfield, with shaky camera work and an operator who manages to keep filming no matter what is going on. He even beats a zombie to death with his camera at one point. Jennifer Carpenter does a nice job acting scared out of her wits as TV reporter Angela Vidal, who picked the wrong night to do a ride-along. The cast is peppered with familiar faces, including Jay Hernandez (Hostel) as a fireman and Greg Germann (Ally McBeal) as a veterinarian who picked a lousy place to rent a room. There are plenty of good scares, and director John Erick Dowdle does a nice job keeping things very tense. This is not a classic by any means, but it’s good enough if you like your horror movies nasty.
