P.S.

Writer/Director Dylan Kidd asks viewers to tap into the mystical sides of their minds examining reincarnation and fate in this clichéd and sappy, romantic bit of dribble. A lonely and socially disconnected widow (Laura Linney) floats through life with her prominently displayed bosom as director of admissions at Columbia University. Even a drug-addicted brother (Paul Rudd), a philandering ex (Gabriel Byrne) and a selfish sex-crazed best friend (Marcia Gay Harden) can’t spark her blasé attitude. Once déjà vu kicks in at Twilight Zone level, and she thinks her dead husband has been reincarnated into a pretty-boy college applicant (Topher Grace) half her age, Linney snaps out of her catatonia. The strong cast gives first-class performances, but the generic dialogue and cheesy romance cause this May-December relationship flick to flounder.
