Flashing failure

One driver jokingly flashed his headlights at an Oro Valley Police Department officer while speeding down the street on the other side of a divided roadway, earning himself a DUI charge after the prank was investigated.

Just after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 29, an OVPD officer was driving southbound on North Oracle Road after exiting the Oro Valley Marketplace. After reaching the 50 miles per hour posted speed limit, the officer made note of a blue pickup travelling northbound at a high rate of speed. The in-car radar caught the driver doing 70 miles per hour. To make matters more interesting, the driver flashed his headlights and waved at the officer as he weaved through traffic.

The officer made a U-turn and eventually pulled the man over, who said he was excited to go to his girlfriend's house and hadn't realized he was driving that fast. The man was unable to find the registration for his vehicle (though he did find one for his trailer) and could not provide proof of insurance. As the driver went through the laborious task, the officer also noted the symptoms consistent with intoxication.

As roadside tests were being conducted the man told the officer he has severe brain trauma from a previous accident, though he still showed several signs of intoxication despite the information. A preliminary breath test was administered, which resulted in a .15 reading.

All in all, the driver picked up charges for DUI, speeding and no proof of insurance.
