What Starbucks Cup Controversy?

Foothills Area

Dec. 9, 2:04 p.m.

A woman walked randomly right into a Starbucks coffee shop and shoplifted a mass of cups straight off the display case ... perhaps thinking they'd make easy (and free) holiday gifts, a Pima County Sheriff's Department report stated.

A barista on shift at the time told a sheriff's deputy he'd been working diligently when a customer shouted at him out of the blue, "Hey, are you going to stop her?!"—pointing to a woman about 30–35 years old who'd been standing in line and suddenly proceeded to grab an armful of cups for sale (not the disposable kind, but mugs or travel cups) and walk swiftly out of the store.

The reportee said he ran outside, but the woman was gone—and so were about $60 worth of cups. Another witness, who'd been in the parking lot, said the subject had been wearing gray sweats and was picked up by a man in a silver getaway car with major body damage.

The coffee-cup thief hadn't been apprehended at the time of the report, but Starbucks staff promised to follow up by later giving the Sheriff's Department a surveillance video of the incident.
