Poetic Kindness

East Helen Street

Feb. 8, 5:31 p.m.

A random act of kindness that many would pair with simple human decency—seemingly so rare these days (at least in this column)—took place, perhaps fittingly, at the UA Poetry Center, according to a University of Arizona Police Department report.

One Thursday afternoon a UA officer was called in person to the Poetry Center, 1508 E. Helen St., to officially document the occurrence of an anonymous citizen picking up a lone twenty-dollar bill, allegedly found somewhere in the women's restroom, and then proceeding not to pocket it, but instead to go out of their way to turn it in at the Poetry Center's front desk.

The deputy took the bill and placed it into a UAPD Property and Evidence locker ... where, unfortunately, it remained, still unclaimed at the time of the report. (Note to reader: Please do not attempt to claim this bill if it wasn't yours.)

When hipsters do something that's slightly outside the law yet an innovation over the old guard, they get a Series-C round of funding, Instagram influencers, and fawning media coverage. When Mexicans do it? We get code enforcement.
